A hard, heavy European hardwood. Harder than hickory, so even a slim diameter puts out real volume. Germany's Rohema builds much of its range from it.
A little more contact area than a teardrop. Cymbal definition stays in check and the sound is fuller and more blended. Easy to live with, and the most common shape here.
For marching bands. Built thick, long and heavy for outdoor volume, which usually makes them far too much stick for a drum set.
